Have you ever wondered how to build a perfectly balanced smoothie? I thought so.
I used to juice, but now I blend. I love my Vitamix. For me, it’s easier, and I love that I can toss all my “exotic” superfoods in there with a bunch of good stuff and just hit play. Simple, right?!
I think green juice is amazing, and amazing for you…but making it at home is quite the commitment as far as time, stocking up on fresh produce, cleanup, etc. – so I prefer to buy green juice now and just stick to blending smoothies at home.
Especially if you are pressed for time or don’t have a ton of fresh produce on hand, putting together a smoothie with a few fresh items and some superfoods or “magic powders” in a blender or Vitamix can really be a life saver! Not to mention the health benefits of all of this stuff beautifully swirled together! 😋
I find that most smoothies I see are made out of so much fruit that the sugar content is just ridiculous and the other nutrient content is very low…so I created this template to help you build a great green smoothie.
This is just a template for my smoothie recipe…. Each one is a little different, and I like to take creative freedoms based on how I feel that day, but more or less, they pretty much follow this format:
Liquid Base: Water, Coconut Water, or Coconut Milk (~8-12 oz.)
Fruit: Apple, Banana, or Blueberries (choose 1)
Veggies: Mini Seedless Cucumbers (1), Celery (1-2 stalks), & 2-3 big handfuls of Spinach, Arugula &/or Kale!
Seeds – Hemp Seeds, Flax Seeds, &/or Chia Seeds (~ 1T. each)
Nuts – Raw Cashews (daily dose of prozac!), Raw Almonds, or Raw Walnuts (nervous system health), (~ 1 handful of your choice of nuts)
Sometimes I add avocado, but personally I think it always turns out too thick, plus I really love to eat them! So I add nuts instead for the good fats.
Superfood Powders – Spirulina, Wheat Grass, Superfoods Green Powder, &/or Bee Pollen (1/2 – 1 T. each)
Other Supplements – Maca Powder, Glutamine Powder, Vitamin C Powder, Protein Powder – (optional) gluten free/vegan/raw. (follow directions on supplement labels)
Spices – Fresh Ginger, Turmeric, Cilantro, &/or Cinnamon (to taste)
Blend Smooth… 🙂
